lady mohawks shoot for Fourth CONSECUTIVE 20 win season
The Volleyball season came to an end in the Moweaqua (Central A & M) Regional on Wednesday, October 29 with a (23-25) (23-25) loss to Edinburg. The last two matches of the season, both sub par games for the Lady Mohawks, but also solid games for the opposition, cost us a winning season, as we finished the season, a somewhat disappointing 16-17. The dismal finish, however should not overshadow the fact that we began a summer campaign with 4 new faces in the starting line-up and lost our first seven matches. The team rallied each new match to make a better effort than the match before and finally started putting together some wins. Some of the high-lights of the season were a Senior Night victory over a very good Taylorville Tornado Team, and a third place finish at Deland-Weldon in their Eagle Classic. In the Mohawk Tournament, and the Edinburg Wildcat Tournament, we finished as Consolation Champs. The Seniors, Alyssa Brown, Emily Fleigle and Molly Myers were great Team Captains this year, and they were the catalysts to put us in a position to have a winning season, although we fell just short of the goal. The 20 win season we had aspired to originally, was only a play or two away in each of about 5 losses this season, but breaks don't always go in a positive direction. None-the- less, we are very proud of our seniors, and look forward to better results next year with the nucleus we have returning. Best of luck to all of our players as many of them will be participating in winter and spring sports for Morrisonville (and Kincaid) in the near future. We as coaches, were very happy to have coached a group of athletes such as were on this team. |
