lady mohawks 2010 volleyball season

The 2010 Volleyball season came to an end in the semi-finals of the Raymond (Lincolnwood) Regional with a (11-25) (10-25) loss to Patoka. This season mirrored last season in that a decent first half of the season (10-8) could not be carried over to the second half (1--11) as the Lady Mohawks finished a miserable 11-19. Signature victories came this season early against Pawnee and Palmyra (Northwestern), both matches went the distance, and in both matches, the Lady Mohawks had to rebound from late game deficits to prevail. Disappointing losses this season came at the hands of Mt. Olive, on the heels of the Pawnee victory, and at the Edinburg Tournament to Greenview. Both matches went the distance, but the opponent won out in the end.

The most telling tale of the lack of success of the team was that in only 8 of the Lady Mohawk's 30 matches were all 7 starters in the starting line-up. Someone always seemed to be absent whether due to injury, illness or other interests. The future does seem brighter for the underclassmen as for two consecutive seasons, the JV team has posted decent records, and a wealth of talent returns. How successful the Lady Mohawks will be is yet to be determined. With all out dedication to the team effort, look for at least two consecutive winning seasons. Without the dedication, however, a mediocre season is not out of the question.

A special "thank you" to the four seniors: Rachel Amos, Breanna Elmore, Cassie Osterholt, and Team Captain Abby Voorhees. Best of luck as you complete your MHS career, and best of luck in the vocation of your choice. It has been a pleasure to coach you and watch you grow into young adults.
